Flare From Iridium 58 Satellite

Iridium satellites have a unique shape that glints sunlight in a way that sometimes they appear very bright in the sky for a few seconds, these are known as Iridium flares. They're fun to photograph because they're extremely regular and easy to predict, so you can compose a photograph with what looks like a shooting star.

A few weeks ago SpaceX launched the last batch of the new Iridium satellites meant to replace their old fleet. These satellites are a new design and won't produce the unique flares. Now that the new fleet is completely launched the older satellites will be removed from commission and their orbits will be allowed to decay. Once the orbits are no longer actively maintained the flares won't be predictable anymore, and we will soon have a sky with no more Iridium flares.

I'm surprised I was able to get this one, it may be the last one I'm ever able to take!
