Jupiter in Amazing Clarity

The other night I had surprising success imaging Jupiter, but I over exposed the image slightly. Tonight I really wanted to try to nail it, so I pulled out my telescope and waited for the sun to go down.

I got incredibly lucky and the weather was absolutely gorgeous. The temperature was finally nice and cool, the moonless sky was dark, and most importantly the air was still.

To fix the exposure issue I set my camera phone app to ISO 400 and a shutter speed of 1/250 seconds and took a 4 minute video.

This ended up being far and away my best image of Jupiter. There aren't just a few bands of clouds, but bands within bands. Sadly the great red spot wasn't visible because I suspect I would have seen great details around it.

The video was stabilized in PIPP, stacked in autostakkert (top 33% of frames), and sharpened in registax with wavelet filters.

If I can replicate this quality I'll have to try and take a series of pictures to create an animation of Jupiter rotating.
