Sharpened Animation of Jupiter Through Webcam

My new webcam has resulted in some amazingly sharp images of Jupiter, and made me want to try another animation of the planet rotating. I was pleased with my last attempt at a Jupiter animation but I slightly over exposed, so I wanted to correct that mistake as well.

I used my 10” telescope, with 2x barlow lens and webcam. Using sharpcap software on my laptop I took 1 minute videos every 5 minutes for an hour. PIPP cropped and aligned all the frames, autostakkert stacked the top 15% of frames for each video, and I sharpened each image with wavelets filters in registax. Finally I adjusted the levels of all the images in darktable.

There is some quirks with sharpcap that I’m noticing as I get used to it. For some reason the shutter speed controls seem to be backwards, so I’m not sure what the true shutter speed I’m using is.

There are also obviously some issues with varying levels of brightness that I haven’t been able to adjust for, but the end result is extremely satisfying.
