Orion Nebula
/Hanging just under Orion's belt on the left is the beautiful Orion Nebula. It's a bright nebula that looks like a smudge to the naked eye. I've never tried photographing something that dim before, but I thought it was worth a shot. I held the Fujifilm mirrorless camera up to the eyepiece and left it on burst mode (3-5 images per second). I tried stacking the image but the software had a hard time picking out any details to align the images correctly. Eventually I got this:
Without a tracking mount it's hard to photograph dim objects. For very dim things you need to keep the shutter open a while, but my telescope mount doesn't track objects as they move, meaning if I leave the shutter open too long I get blurry streaks.
All in all I'm happy I got ANY details of the nebula, but there still isn't much to see. Plenty of room for next time!
