Northern Lights!

The other day there was a large solar flair from the sun aimed at the Earth. This has happened before and there are always vague alerts of northern lights, but in my 38 years I've never seen them, NJ is just too far south.

Sometimes people get a smudge of color on a camera but nothing impressive.

Tonight that changed!

My wife saw someone post online about it, and I immediately perked up since I spent the morning watching NOAA forecasts for the satellites I work on. I stuck my head outside and the sky was bright pink! I got friends and the kids outside and we all enjoyed it, you could even see lines in the colors.

Bucket list item checked! Now I'll have to try to go to Iceland or somewhere else in Scandinavia to see really big and bright auroras!
